Units in the Truman Annex Shipyard section now available for booking for February 18 - 25 2017 and they may be going fast.

As of 4/13 I've heard we'll see Rick and Margo in Key West too!

I received an update 4/5. Moore people have signed on!

The best deals are splitting a 2 bedroom between 2 singles or couples or perhaps a 3 bed unit 3 ways. One car allowed per condo.

Best advise is to call Compass Realty 305-292-1881 and ask for a list of Shipyard condos that are available 2/18 to 2/25/2017. Write them down so that you can do a site search. Ask them how best to reserve the unit you want.

You can then go to their site compass-realty.com and do the individual property search. Here is how. Main Compass page click "search all vacation homes". Next page has a small dropdown menu "---Select Property ---" Click and scroll to the named unit you are looking for, click on it and hit the "show" button to see the unit.

So far 4 young ladies we know have made their reservations and Beth and I have signed on the dotted line. Tom and Fran are in too.

Other stuff:

There is no schedule of activities for anyone who makes the trip. You do your own thing & make your own plans with or with out the rest of the crew. We do usually meet at the Shipyard complex pool in the early afternoon. Locations and times of Key West happy hours are shared.

As of 4/1/2016 these 2 bedroom units on the ground level were still available:
The one bath 2 bedrooms cost is 2,150 + 12.5% tax + service fee which for us totaled $2,513.26 - 2 = $1,256.63

Update 2/15/2017

Friends called Compass Realty, they won't accept booking until 10 months before the arrival date. They wait until then to see if they are rebooked. Compass said to call back April 1st. Dang!

The only other option I know of that might work to reserve now or sooner than April 1 is through vrbo It is a for rent by owner site. You are not dealing with a corporation so there can be issues with one owners reliability vs another. Check how long they have been a member and read the reviews. Use caution if you go that route. We have used vrbo very successfully in the past and currently have reservations with a vrbo owner on a future rental.

News Flash!

Some of us (not me) have checked on the Craig and Cindy condos linked below They checked this February 2016.

They are reported to be booked for 2017 likely by the people that stayed there this year. Craig had told me that happens a lot.

I talked to a young lady at Compass Realty some months ago (September+/-) and she said their units might still be available for our dates if we made reservations in the March 2016 to early May range. Maybe not. They have dozens and maybe dozens of units where as Craig and Cindy have 11 or 12 if I remember correctly.

Key West trip Saturday 2/18/2017 checking out 2/25/2017

In 2012 we let folks know we were planning on spending a week or so in Key West. We gave everybody the dates and where we were staying. There were 20 some of us who made the trip. It was a fantastic vacation. The plan is to head to Key West again in 2017. We hope you can join us.

Reservations can not be made until April 1, 2016.

I tried to secure reservations for February 2016 in June of 2015 and found the selection very limited. If you know you want to go, make reservations early but you might find a good condo later in the year.

The Annex has a variety of budgets and living arrangements. A cost effective option is the two bedroom condo in the Shipyard section. It works well when you split the cost by sharing the unit with friend(s). All the units I have seen have kitchens, living rooms, washer and dryer and decks or balconies. Hotels are generally much more expensive with out many of the amenities.

Alert! Each unit has one parking spot only. There is no additional, on site parking area. There is an additional tax charge of 12.5% on your rental cost & there may be some additional processing fees, cleaning fees etc.

There are also huge single family homes with private pools. They might be worth considering for a large group or family that gets along well. (4 bedroom, 3 bath private home w/ private pool-sleep 8) This is a good deal for 4 couples or singles BUT ONLY ONE PARKING SPOT. 4 bedrooms link, Craig and Cindy

If your entire party is flying into KW and you do not have need of your one parking spot, let me know. Someone else might be able to take advantage of the extra spot.

Here is a map of the Shipyard units and where we stayed in 2012. they were all similar except for the orange arrow. That was a very nice 3 bedroom unit.

Flying into Miami or Ft Lauderdale and don't want to drive to Key West? It looks like the price goes down as the number in your party goes up.

The shuttle from the main land

We road the bus last year with success. The service we used was the upper Keys Shuttle. You can go from KW to Marathon or anywhere in between for a very reasonable one day price. This link also shows the in around and about Key West bus schedules.
